Closing the Pool

Fall is on the horizon

Time to say goodbye for now to the sunny days of summer and the lazy days of floating around in the pool with an umbrella drink. I know, it's depressing.

On the brighter side, the kids are back in school, holidays are starting to roll in, and crisp fall leaves are right around the corner. That being said, it's about time to shut down the pool for awhile and embrace the holiday season. Question is: When is the Best Time To Close Pools in East Tennessee? Hey, Let's ask the pool guy!!!

Pool Boys closes around 150 pools each fall. I can tell you from experience BY FAR the best time to close your pool in East TN is October through November - Once these 80 degree days have passed. Covering your pool while its still hot outside is setting yourself up for a green pool in the spring. September is pretty early to be closing it down in our area. We still have plenty of hot days left here in East TN during September, and it can burn out most or all the chlorine you used to close your pool. Wait a little bit and save yourself a mess in the spring. By waiting til sometime in October, your chances of opening back up to a blue, clear pool have increased around 80% if properly winterized.

By properly winterized, I mean the pool had a balanced pH and you used a winterizing kit, chlorine tabs & floater, some algaecide, and shock. For a list of exact chemicals needed, stop by our store for a "chemical recipe" for your exact size pool. Do it right and save a big headache in the spring.
